If your numpad suddenly stopped working in Ubuntu, I had a same problem and this simple solution fixed it:

Go to:

  1. System / Preferences / Keyboard
  2. Go to “Mouse Keys” tab
  3. Un-check “Allow to control the pointer using the keyboard”
  4. Done.
